Seeking Performers

Public Welcome is a volunteer-run community arts ad hoc collective with an interest in using the live arts (storytelling, movement, improv) as a means of reflecting the realities of complex community concerns and facilitate meaningful dialogue using the language of the live arts. This is done by using a variety of techniques from the applied theatre and dance traditions, specifically Playback Theatre (Fox), Tamalpa Life/Art Process (Halprin) and Theatre of the Oppressed (Boal).

Public Welcome is inviting any interested artists and community members to become part of the collective and receive complimentary ensemble training in these methods with the hope that future public performances will be paid for each participating performer.

Ensemble training with the ad hoc collective will be undertaken through weekly meet-ups (Monday or Thursday evenings; this will change depending on availability) and a week-long intensive happening August 9 through August 15, 2021, 2:00 to 6:00pm as part of a creative residency at The GRAND (Calgary) that will look at the impacts of climate change.

The collective organization, for the time being, is being volunteer-run by transdisciplinary artist, activist and community organizer, Kevin Jesuino ( in partnership with TRAction ( a dynamic collective of interdisciplinary artists who engage communities in art-making to address issues of climate justice.

Are you ANY of the following?

  • A theatre, dance, improv, live art artist?
  • An activist or community member with an interest in performing arts?
  • Curious how live arts can be used for social change?
  • A marginalized individual who has seen or personally been impacted by oppression and/or climate change?
  • A member of a marginalized group who wants ongoing skill development in arts-based facilitation that can be taken back to the communities you serve?

We are looking for individuals who are interested in being part of an ongoing collective of artists specializing in this process. No professional performance experience necessary, however, some performance experience is helpful (even if that means high school theatre/dance).

Ideally, you are based in Moh’kinsstis.
