Introduction to Photography and Digital Imaging

The University of Calgary’s Department of Art invites applications for a sessional instructor to teach the following course in the spring of 2020.

ART 235: Introduction to Photography and Digital Imaging
Course Dates: May 6 – June 17, 2020
Times: Monday/Wednesday, 9:00am – 2:50pm
Course Hours: 3 units; (3-3)

Course Description

An introductory course in current photographic methods, including digital photography, digital image processing, and the presentation of photographs.

Note, due to COVID-19 this course will be offered remotely and lecture and assignment will be adjusted to fit the mode of online delivery


  • MFA is preferred but a combination of online experience, photography experience and other master’s degree can be considered.
  • Applicants must possess experience teaching undergraduate university courses.
  • Any outstanding professional achievement or substantial training in the field specified in the job announcement.
  • Ability to communicate effectively and constructively with persons of diverse cultures, language groups, and abilities.
  • Demonstrated evidence of successful teaching experience at the university level.

Desirable Skills and Abilities:

  • Energy, enthusiasm, and commitment to excellence in teaching.
  • The willingness to work with students having a wide range of skills, varying abilities, motivations, and academic or vocational goals.
  • The ability to communicate effectively and work cooperatively with others in a team environment.
  • The ability to use instructional strategies designed for diverse learning styles and academic goals.
  • Demonstrable knowledge of current literature on art.
