RISE UP Song Contest

The deadline for this opportunity has passed.

The competition is open to Calgary-based artists or groups for submission until January 15, 2021.

RISE UP, in partnership with CKUA, Alberta Music, and the National Music Centre, and sponsored by Calgary Arts Development, is searching for a fully produced, original song to be used for ongoing RISE UP initiatives. The competition is open to Calgary-based artists or groups for submission until January 15, 2021.

RISE UP is an open-source platform to kickstart the arts industry’s recovery, connect Calgarians to safety-conscious live experiences, and support local artists and businesses who have struggled through COVID-19. As RISE UP continues to grow its list of experiences and initiatives for Calgarians, it needs a theme song that embodies the resilience and spirit of the City of Calgary.

The winner of the competition will receive a $5,000 payment for the licensing of their song for the period of one year, free production time at Studio Bell at the National Music Centre, and paid performance opportunities at future RISE UP events. Finalists will also have a paid opportunity to perform in a RISE UP song competition showcase. All rights and ownership of the song and performance will remain with the artist.

Artists can submit their fully produced, original songs from December 15, 2020, to January 15, 2021. Finalists will be announced on January 22nd, and the winning song will be announced on January 25, 2021. Songs should represent the collaborative strength, resilience, support and spirit of the people of Calgary, and how we will RISE UP together as we move forward towards recovery. They can be any genre and will be considered whether performers are aspiring or established artists.
