Storytelling Alberta (SA) is partnering with Calgary Seniors Resource Society with generous funding from the Federal Government to deliver a free and friendly story-based outreach program to Calgary and area seniors.

In keeping with its mandate to celebrate and promote the art of oral storytelling, SA assigns a storyteller to a StoryShare request to share a story with a senior by phone. During the subsequent chat, the senior is warmly invited to share an anecdote from their lived history. A volunteer joins the call as a generous, caring community connection with resources at their fingertips to help the senior meet their immediate needs.

Although the main project was initially set to launch with home visits in April, the pandemic threw a wrench into those plans. The pilot project hit the ground running as storyshare-by-phone in May and has delivered over 120 outreach sessions between May and September. The project also boasts six legacy video recordings of clients’ stories on the SA YouTube channel which you can visit  youtube.com.
