Street to Studio: Transitioning Practice Methods-Materials-Process

This open call is for grati/street artists, tattoo, low-brow/pop surrealists, or any other artist looking to transition their art practice to or (in)between commercial/institutional/pop-up spaces and places.

This six-week intensive residency, guided out of YYC/LRT (a decommissioned C-Train located downtown Calgary) will result in a group exhibition of works created during this residency at Contemporary Calgary.

Lead Artists

Be. and Bramble Lee Pryde

Participants will learn new art making techniques involving photo transfers, printmaking, drawing, aerosol, automated stencils/vinyl, mould-making and assemblage thereof.

Bios, CVs, grants and exhibition applications, and artwork documentation will be addressed along with one-on-one assessments for each artist.

All materials provided free of charge as is instruction, guidance and mentorship.

Dates: Workshop runs every Monday and Wednesday from April 3 – May 13, 2023
Times: 6 –  9pm, with open studio time every Saturday from 1 – 4pm

Application Requirements

Please send a 200–300 word letter of interest along with 10-15 JPGs of new, previous or work-in-progress to and with the subject line: STREET TO STUDIO SUBMISSION.

(CV, bio and artist statement will be accepted, but is not necessary to apply.)
