Recording the Drums
November 23, 2024
How did they get that drum sound? is one of the most common questions you’ll hear in a recording studio. Walk into a session, and you’ll often see a mic for the vocalist, a pair of mics for the piano and… TEN MICS on the drums?! If you’ve ever wished for more time in the studio to experiment with the sound of a drum kit before hitting record, this workshop is for you. Join one of NMC’s recording engineers and an experienced session drummer as they work through the questions and decisions involved in a successful drum recording, and add to your drum recording playbook without the pressure of the studio clock ticking while the band waits in the lounge.
Make Better Sounding Recording at Home
November 30, 2024
After decades spent gathering dust in basements and pawnshops, analog synthesizers have returned to stages and studios everywhere. It seems that new analog synths appear on store shelves every week while vintage instruments command top dollar in the used marketplace. They’ve even been digitally re-created as virtual instruments with the promise of “classic tone” and “analog warmth.” But how do they work? Which ones are the best? And how can old techniques and obsolete technology be used to create modern sounds?
This workshop for musicians, audio engineers and producers will include demonstrations and hands-on exploration of vintage synthesizers from NMC’s Living Collection of instruments, including the Minimoog, ARP 2600, Sequential Circuits Prophet 5 and Roland’s Juno and Jupiter models.
