Summer Camp Assistants

AUArts is looking for organized and reliable summer camp assistants who embody AUArts’ values of creativity and community to provide non-instructional support for the School of Continuing Education & Professional Development (SCEPD) at the Alberta University of the Arts starting in late June 2022.

The Opportunity

Reporting to the dean, innovation, learning & development, summer camp assistants will work in conjunction with the program developer to help plan and execute week-long summer camp programs for kids and teens. Summer camp assistants will supervise mealtimes, field trips, and free time, and will be responsible for daily check-in and check-out of campers. Summer camp assistants will provide assistance to summer camp facilitators as needed, including coordination of indoor and outdoor recreational activities, and curation and installation of camper work for end-of-week exhibitions. Summer camp assistants will demonstrate a positive attitude and will provide a safe, fun, and inclusive environment for campers.

The successful candidate(s) will have:

  • Active post-secondary student status.
  • Strong verbal communication & teamwork skills.
  • Organization, attention to detail, and time-management skills.
  • Excellent customer service & support skills.
  • Interest in working with children & teenagers.
  • Valid First Aid Certification is an asset.
  • Interest in 2D & 3D art disciplines.

Knowledge and/or experience in one or more of the following:

  • Sewing
  • Garment construction
  • Animation
  • Drawing
  • Photography
  • Cartooning

The successful candidate(s) will be required to obtain a satisfactory Police Information Check and Vulnerable Sector Search.

This casual position pays an hourly rate of $17.51 plus 6% pay in lieu of vacation and dues will be collected at a rate of 1.25% per pay. As this position is casual in nature, there will be no guarantee of hours or a regular schedule.
