Two-day Workshop: Saturday, November 18, 2023, 9am – 4:30pm; and Sunday, November 19, 2023, 10am – 3:30pm (30 min. lunch break on both days)
Three-hour Workshop: Saturday, November 25, 1 – 4:30pm

Feathers are a sacred symbol for many Indigenous peoples. Each feather carries a story, of wisdom, strength, flexibility, healing and resilience.

Together, working in small groups we will choose the colours and decorative elements, assemble our paper feathers, and attach them to shafts made from saplings. Participants will also be invited to mark the feathers with symbols or words, which will remain sealed inside the layers like private messages or words of intention.

We will design and build 11-foot hand-crafted paper Tall Feathers in the two-day workshop to be proudly displayed onsite at KOAC during the month of November (and can be collected from KOAC by participants in December) and 7-foot Tall Feathers in the three-hour workshop that can be taken home with the participants right after the event.

Collectively we will assemble the Tall Feathers, expressions of a part of our journey, into an array celebrating our community. Each workshop will begin with a ceremony and prayer by local Elder Harley Crowshoe, and will culminate with an assembled array of the feathers, and shared reflections about the experience.

We are so excited to host these two workshops as part of our ongoing dedication to reconciliation and to bringing our community engaging experiences of contemporary art in nature!
