TRUCK Contemporary Art is situated on the traditional territories of the people of the Treaty 7 region in Southern Alberta, which includes the Niitsitapi (inclusive of the Siksika, Piikani, and Kainai First Nations), the Tsuut’ina First Nation, and the Iyarhe Nakoda (including the Chiniki, Bearspaw, and Wesley First Nations). The City of Calgary is also home to the Métis Nation of Alberta, Region III. TRUCK Contemporary Art is a non-profit artist-run centre dedicated to the development and public presentation of contemporary art. Established in 1983 as The Second Story Art Society, TRUCK provides a forum for the production and dissemination of contemporary art and related cultural practices on Treaty 7 territory in the Southern Alberta region. TRUCK supports artists and artistic communities through exhibition programming, lectures, screenings, performances, publications, commissions, off-site and public programs, residencies, community collaborations, engagement and outreach, and advocacy activities.
Job Description
The programs assistant contributes to the research, development, and implementation of TRUCK’s public programs. The primary roles and responsibilities of this position will be to assist with promotion and communications related to TRUCK’s contemporary art programming. Tasks include assisting with the development and implementation of a communication strategy and providing support during the presentation of winter programs.
The position also assists in day-to-day gallery operations including exhibition facilitation, installation, promotion of events, and communication with gallery visitors, and participating artists.

- Interest in contemporary art and artist-run culture.

- Excellent organizational and communication skills.
- Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
- Ability to work effectively in a team environment as well as independently.
- Ability to work flexible hours including weekends and when necessary, evenings.
To be Eligible
Under the terms and conditions of Canada Summer Jobs, applicants must meet the following eligibility criteria: be between 15 and 30 years of age at the start of the employment; be a Canadian citizen, permanent resident, or person to whom refugee protection has been conferred under the Immigration and Refugee Protection Act 3; and, be legally entitled to work in Canada in accordance with relevant legislation and regulations.

This position is for 30 hours per week from mid-November to the end of February 2021 at $20 per hour + 4% vacation pay. If full-time hours present a barrier for applicants, we are open to considering alternative ways of organizing working hours.
