The Alberta University of the Arts (AUArts) is looking for an innovative and collaborative Vice President, Finance & Operations to provide strategic leadership to the organization.

Alberta University of the Arts rests on the traditional Treaty 7 Territories of the Blackfoot people and in the spirit of our collective effort to promote reconciliation, we acknowledge the traditional territories and oral practices of the Blackfoot Confederacy, which includes Siksika, Piikani and Kainai, the Tsuut’ina, the Stoney Nakoda First Nations (Bearspaw, Chiniki and Wesley), Metis Nation Region III, and all those who make their homes in the Treaty 7 Region of Southern Alberta.

It has deep roots in Calgary’s creative community and will soon be celebrating its centennial.

The Opportunity

Reporting to the President and CEO, the Vice President, Finance & Operations provides leadership in support of achieving the University’s mandate, mission and strategic goals. The Vice President ensures strategic and effective direction and overall management of the business and corporate affairs of the University through leadership in the areas of financial services and budget planning, facilities and campus operations, and contract management, risk management, technology and technical services, and operations management.

Key Responsibilities:

The Vice President will provide leadership in the areas of accounting/finance, strategic planning and capital projects, risk management, IT and technology support, procurement and facilities/operations management. The primary responsibilities of the Vice President will include budget/forecasting, financial reporting, treasury/cash management/government funding, internal controls/compliance, corporate policy and governance, insurance/legal, technology/management systems and maintaining key stakeholder relationships with the board of directors, audit committee, Revenue Canada, government agencies and various associations and business partners across Alberta.

To be successful in this Vice President role, you will hold a CPA designation along with 10 years of senior leadership experience within a complex public sector, educational institution or NPO environment. You will have a broad understanding of finance, information systems, and facility operations and management experience in two or more of these operational areas. This is an exceptional opportunity to apply your senior management leadership skills and technical competence in a challenging and rewarding position where you are able to influence change and implement efficiencies and improvements across all levels of the organization. AUArts offers an attractive benefit package, with annual salary dependent upon skills, education and experience.
