As an experienced visual arts instructor, you will teach a variety of visual arts (drawing, painting, cartooning, two-and-three dimensional media) courses for children, youth, families, and adults. You will be responsible for the leading, planning and instruction for visual arts, including the development of skills, knowledge and technique in the activity /discipline.

Primary Duties Include:

  • Teach specific skills to participants through progressive development and sharing of knowledge.
  • Develop course outlines, lesson plans and resources (based on named learning goals and outcomes).
  • Ensure safety and well-being of participants.
  • Prepare and maintain program equipment, supplies, and program space. Maintain program records and assist with program evaluation.
  • Maintain a high degree of customer service.
  • Provide coaching and direction to volunteers when required.

Qualifications:

  • Be at least 18 years of age or older.
  • An advanced post-secondary education in a specified field (such as visual arts or ceramics).
  • Or have a recognized advanced teaching certification.
  • At least three years of instructional experience or equivalent preferably in specified program field (ceramics, drawing, painting, print making and cartooning, two-and-three dimensional media).
  • Extensive personal base of resource material in field.
  • Ability to develop curriculum-based programs.
  • A referral from a recognized specialist in a specific field will be considered an asset.
  • Current Standard First Aid, Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) and Automated External Defibrillator (AED) level “C” certifications.
  • Must be willing to participate in a Criminal Record Check with a Vulnerable Sector Search. Date of completion must be within the last 12 months.
  • Demonstrated ability in assessing customer needs and evaluation and adaptation.
  • Recognized as an authority in the field by institution, peers and/or public.

Pre-employment Requirements:

  • A security clearance will be conducted.
  • Successful applicants must provide proof of qualifications at time of interview.
  • Applicants may be contacted, interviewed, and hired throughout the duration of this competition.

Compensation: $28 to $38 per hour
