Warrior Writing Circle
Writing circle for novelists or long-form writers.
What can novelists/long form writers learn from each other over six weeks in twice-monthly two hour sessions and gathering together with writers of all levels in between?
First session Thursday, January 28, 2021. Last session, Thursday, April 8, 2021. We meet every two weeks via Zoom for two hours.
What makes the novel/long form project Warrior Writing Circle unique?
- Our inquiries into theme, form, narrator’s voice/role.
- Our deep dives into questions. The extra hour allotted for this circle will allow us to engage in deep discussions/conversations. Our questions will come from the group. I’ll send out a form to gather everyone’s questions prior to our first session. I’ll research what other writers have written on the topic and present it to the group for consideration. All of our work together will evolve as the group needs become clear and shift.
- Our deep dives into the craft and art of writing. George Saunders new book on writing will be one text we’ll look at, also Gayle Brandeis’ Fruitflesh, Laraine Herring’s Writing Warrior, Douglas Glover’s work in Attack of the Copula Spiders. I’m interested in being inspired by writers whose work you’ve studied as well.
- Small size, intimate and helpful conversations.
- My time reading up to 50 pages of your work.
- Experiments in how to live a writing life, how to allow your writing to emerge.
- I gather and share resources, writing samples, and ideas around themes we choose as a group.
This circle is for you if you’ve completed or have mostly completed a first draft, you’ve spent more than a year on this project, you want to explore what you’ve written about so far. Full bursaries are available.
