The Genesis Centre invites artists to submit qualifications to collaborate with a team of artists, staff and volunteers to create The Genesis Centre Weaving Community Project, located at 7555 Falconridge Blvd. NE.
Artists that live in the communities surrounding the facility are encouraged to apply.
Seeking two (2) artists for a total fee of $1270 per artist to assist the project lead artist. Calculated using CARFAC fee guidelines for a living wage.
- The Genesis Centre “Weaving Community Project” will be an artwork that represents the themes of community connection and food security. This project will be a collaboratively built nature loom influenced by permaculture principles (see appendix A) and inspired by “Earth Looms” around the globe.
- Activities will include but are not limited to public engagement, promotion of the project in the neighbourhood, workshop preparation, workshop facilitation, travel if applicable, studio fees, assistance with main weaving structure, and facilitating all ages weaving sessions with the public.
- Horticultural knowledge, familiarity with permaculture principles, or a Permaculture Design Certificate considered an asset.
- Experience with facilitating workshops for all ages, sustainable foraging, fibre art weaving and dyeing fabrics preferred.
- Must be comfortable speaking in public and working in community.
- Able to speak another language an asset.
- This position is on site, part time from July 22 – September 30 2025, hours will be established in consultation with artist team.
