Help us use the power of puppetry to impact positive social change!
W.P. Puppet Theatre Society is inviting people with a passion for puppetry, the arts and community issues, such as mental health and wellness, education, climate action, hope and human agency, diversity, and inclusion, to join our board of directors.
We invite the voices of people from across the province of Alberta to join as we pivot to deliver our programming online. Input from both urban and rural Albertan voices are important for when or if we tour our performances or learning programs provincially.
A broad network of business and community connections would be an asset. There are fun opportunities for hands-on participation and also advisory roles in programming, marketing or governance. We ask for a monthly time commitment of approximately four to six hours. Preferred Board term is three years.
Specifically, we invite our board members to serve or lead sub-committees working on:
- Governance guidelines and training manual development
- Event planning – Puppet Power conferences
- Budget and finance review
- Sponsorship and donation research and implementation
- Strategic succession planning.
We are committed to a policy of diversity and welcome persons of any race, creed, colour, age, sex, religion or national origin to be part of our programs.

Our meetings are typically held on Zoom, every couple of months. In order to ensure a good fit for both of us, our recruitment process includes a CV review, a phone or Zoom call with other board members and one meeting as a guest member. After initial conversations, training is typically on the spot. Questions welcome!
Certification or Education Required
Police Information Check is required IF you are going to work with our audiences. We will pay for this.
Why should you volunteer for this opportunity?
We are a small, friendly organization and this is a great opportunity to gain board experience, make great community connections and have some creative fun. We like thinking outside the box! Everyone’s ideas are valued.
