Distinguished Artist Award
The Lieutenant Governor of Alberta Distinguished Artist Award is Alberta’s most prestigious recognition of outstanding achievement in the arts.
This award recognizes Alberta artists for:
- The highest degree of artistic excellence.
- Career achievement or a significant body of work.
- A breakthrough contribution, including pushing the boundaries of the art form.
- Significant impact on, and contribution to, the arts in Alberta.
In order to be eligible to receive the award, nominees must be:
- Canadian citizens.
- Current Alberta residents or those who have had, and who maintain, a significant connection to the arts in the province of Alberta.
Up to three awards of $30,000 each are awarded every other year (odd years). Recipients also receive a hand-cast medal, a pin, a framed citation, and, where appropriate, a two-week residency at the Banff Centre Leighton Artist Studios.
The awards will be presented by the Lieutenant Governor of Alberta on June 12, 2021, at a celebration hosted in Lac la Biche, Alberta.
