Archived December 16, 2020 Distinguished Artist Award Now Open for Nominations The Lieutenant Governor of Alberta Distinguished Artist Award is Alberta’s most prestigious recognition of outstanding achievement in the arts. This award recognizes Alberta artists for: The highest degree of artistic excellence. Career achievement or a significant body of work. A breakthrough contribution, including pushing the boundaries of the art form. Significant impact on, and contribution to, the arts in Alberta. In order to be eligible to receive the award, nominees must be: Canadian citizens. Current Alberta residents or those who have had, and who maintain, a significant connection to the arts in the province of Alberta. Up to three awards of $30,000 each are awarded every other year (odd years). Recipients also receive a hand-cast medal, a pin, a framed citation, and, where appropriate, a two-week residency at the Banff Centre Leighton Artist Studios. The awards will be presented by the Lieutenant Governor of Alberta on June 12, 2021, at a celebration hosted in Lac la Biche, Alberta.
