48 Hour Mobile Device Film Challenge

Tired of being bored? Bored of being tired? Here’s your sign to get out there and take the Edmonton Short Film Festival (ESFF) 48 Hour Mobile Device Film Challenge!

It’s a free filmmaking challenge that will test your creativity, spontaneity, and mobile filming skills.

You’ll be given just 48 hours to create a short film (max 2 minutes) with footage shot using only a smartphone or tablet. Editing may be done using any device (computers allowed).

Your film must be fully completed and uploaded to YouTube and submitted to us at the 48-hour deadline. You’ll then have the following week to promote your film online.

The twist?

The evening when the 48-hour window of production begins, you’ll receive an email informing you of 3 secret elements that must be included in your film.

This is a local event! It is open to all ages, but you must be an Alberta resident to participate.

Once all films have been submitted and judged, all completed films will be showcased at the ESFF Film Expo on August 1, 2021.

Cost: Free
Location: Anywhere in Alberta
Dates: July 23 at 6:00pm to July 25, 2021 at 6:00pm

For more information and to register, visit esff.ca.

A winning film will be chosen for each of the following:

  • 2021 Best judged film
  • 2021 Best use of Secret Elements
  • 2021 Best marketed film

Winners will receive prizes and the three winning films will be screened at the 2021 Edmonton Short Film Festival Red Carpet Gala on October 16, 2021.
