The Role

Overview

The archives clerk will respond to requests from researchers in the community wishing to conduct archive-related research at Glenbow and will assist with the coordination of access to archive-related resources. This role is customer-service focused and the first point of contact for archive access requests. Work is expected to be completed in a respectful, timely and efficient manner.

Role Responsibilities

  • Responding to inquiries regarding archival records held at Glenbow.
  • Clarifying needs related to research requests and communicating Glenbow policies and processes.
  • Identifying and gathering the necessary fonds related to access requests.
  • Scheduling visits from researchers to Glenbow to review requested materials.
  • Oversight of the safe use and return of resources during visits.
  • Coordinating information as needed with other Glenbow staff.
  • Ensuring requested resources are returned and safely secured.
  • Following appropriate material handling and safety procedures.
  • Staying up to date with Glenbow policies and procedures.

Qualifications for this Role

  • Bachelor of Arts required.
  • Minimum one year of experience in a museum, archive or gallery-related environment.
  • General familiarity with archives and archival research.
  • Awareness of care and handling required when dealing with original documents.
  • Experience with and knowledge of Inmagic DB/Textworks database systems preferred.
  • Exceptional attention to detail and care when working with archives.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to manage time effectively, manage workloads and meet deadlines.
  • Demonstrated administrative and organizational skills.
  • Flexible schedule.
