Arts4Antiracism

The deadline for this opportunity has passed.

In response to COVID-19, interviews will be conducted via telephone. Also, the cohort intends to go ahead and form, but the board will meet to discuss postponement or delivery and arrange for how to go forward.

The Coalition for Equal Access to Education is documenting experiences as part of a larger project, which aims to not only provide evidence of the systemic racism in our schools, but to make recommendations in order to actually change things, and make schools safer for racialized families and school workers.

There is a $50 honorarium for anyone interested in being interviewed about their personal experiences of racism at Calgary schools:

  • School workers
  • Parents of racialized youth
  • Anyone ages 14 to 25 with personal experience of racism in a Calgary school.

It takes just an hour of your time at a time and place convenient to you.

Through your interview, you will be helping to remove barriers to quality education.

The interviews are confidential and anonymous.

In addition to the interviews, we have funding to offer, free of charge, a 10-week arts program, open to anyone. It’s Mondays only, from 4:30 to 7:00pm, and will explore themes of racism through theatre, visual art, spoken word, and more. This is not a class. The group will self-determine, with the help of professional facilitators and artists, the direction they will go.

It is a unique opportunity for anyone wanting to cultivate leadership, artistic, and networking opportunities. There is $100 honorarium upon completion, and age and ethnicity are not barriers (although you must be 14+). We have people of all ages and backgrounds signing up for this.

The group begins March 23, 2020, and runs Mondays until June 8, 2020.

If you know if someone who could be a candidate for either initiative, please feel free to forward this ad or call Anna Garleff at 587.224.3793.
