Artstrek 2021: The Virtual World Edition

Artstrek, Theatre Alberta’s summer theatre school for teens, is back! And it’s going into uncharted territory. For the first time in its 60 year history Artstrek will be entirely online for the summer of 2021.

We invite teens who are passionate about live theatre to join us for this online learning experience!

Each online exploration will strengthen skills and deepen appreciation of live theatre through the study of five core subjects: acting, devising, design, voice, and movement. Students will connect with their peers from across the province and engage with a team of professional artists and educators who inspire, challenge, and lead them on their creative exploration. And yes, your supers will be there too!

Beware! Dragons, demon cheerleaders, and voracious gelatinous cubes lurk in the virtual world! We’re excited to announce that students at Artstrek 2021 will study Qui Nguyen’s high-octane dramatic comedy She Kills Monsters: The Young Adventurers Edition. She Kills Monsters follows the journey of an average teenager, Agnes Evans, who is catapulted into an anything-but-average adventure following the death of her younger sister, Tilly. As Agnes sets out to learn about the life Tilly led, she finds herself immersed in a world filled with homicidal faeries, deadly dance battles, and butt-kicking heroes. Delving into themes of identity, self-discovery, loss, and love, She Kills Monsters is a pulse-pounding tribute to geek-chique warriors everywhere.
