Assistant Producer

Term: This is a full-time, 40 hours per week position, for one year, with the likely possibility of multi-year renewal.
Start date: July 15, 2022.

Reporting to the producing director, the assistant producer will be responsible for working with the producing director to organize all custom components of school residencies as well as manage all artist training and development projects. For our one-week school residencies, this will mean creating timelines, tracking budgets, organizing artists and community elements, scheduling equipment and supporting the development of thematic elements related to each custom project. For development projects, this will mean managing the development schedules and timelines, managing the testing cycles, tracking the budgets, keeping in touch with all of the artists working on the projects, preparing reports and stats, and assisting with staffing the projects. There may be elements of our sales, fundraising and technical operations that are also involved (in short, any aspect of the company that the producing director is involved in).

The successful candidate will have at least three years of experience as an arts producer or production stage manager and will be very organized. Our company uses Google Workplace, Salesforce, Calendly and Adobe Creative Suite as our primary software. This position may be partly done from a home office, but most of the time the position will work out of our office in the NW of Calgary, as well as the Calgary-based schools we are working with.

Based on performance and experience, the hourly fees will be negotiated between $25-29 per hour plus four per cent holiday pay and stat holidays. Trickster Theatre is not an Equity company.

Trickster is the largest children’s theatre company in Alberta and primarily delivers one-week residency programs across Alberta. The company is also involved in online and live short-term projects related to global issues, storytelling and science. Trickster was founded by the producing director in 1980 and receives funding from the Canada Council, Alberta Foundation for the Arts, Calgary Arts Development, and various foundations and corporate funders.

Trickster had a very effective response to COVID-19 and is now integrating a number of new programs into our regular offerings to schools. This position will be key to making those adaptations, as well as helping manage the training of an expanded artist team. We have a full season of residencies booked and this position will help manage these in cooperation with our operations manager.
