Position Overview

The assistant will be responsible to support all volunteer recruitment, engagement and coordination for the annual Beakerhead festival that takes place in September. The assistant reports directly to the executive director of Beakerhead and will work closely with them alongside Spark’s volunteer manager and Beakerhead’s operations architect.

This will be a 14-week full-time contract and is part of the Canada’s summer jobs grant. The anticipated start date for this role is the week of June 5, 2023.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Coordinate all areas of the volunteer cycle (including recruitment, screening, orientation, placement, training, recognition and evaluation).
  • Identify and pursue potential volunteer recruitment opportunities within the community, including in diverse communities.
  • Ensure volunteer records are up-to-date and accurate through data entry or by training others in data entry (while adhering to confidentiality and privacy policies).
  • Provide regular progress updates and identify successes, issues and challenges.
  • Develop and maintain relationships with community groups.
  • Coordinate with Beakerhead colleagues to support community programs that culminate with events, installations, competitions, etc. during the annual Beakerhead event.
  • Engage in public presentations regarding Beakerhead, volunteer opportunities, and related activities and community workshops.
  • Ensure personal and team activities are aligned with business and strategic goals of Spark as a whole.
  • Model high performance, flexibility and kindness in a rapidly changing growth environment.
  • Other duties as required and assigned.

Qualifications & Knowledge:

  • A minimum of 6 months experience or expertise in volunteer engagement, coordination and recruitment.
  • Fluency in Microsoft Office and Google docs editor suite and able to use most platforms.
  • Strong ethics and ability to manage confidential data if required.
  • A proven track record of adding value to an organization’s culture and initiatives.
  • A positive attitude!
  • Desire to work on a high performing team with a continuous upgrading culture to achieve high impact results. Fluidity and a desire to work hard and grow are essential.
  • A high degree of creativity with the ability to leave your ego at the door.
  • Willingness to learn and adapt to change.

Closing Date: Will remain open until all positions are filled.Hourly Rate: $23 per hour.

Eligibility as per the Government of Canada Summer Job Grant:

  • The youth hire must be between the ages of 15 – 30.
  • The youth hire must consent to be part of the summer job grant in order to proceed.
