Learn the implementation and maintenance of audio systems for music recording, film and digital cinema, web-based audio applications, and music creation and composition spaces. Practicum will become familiar with maintaining and upgrading software and hardware used in audio production as well as wiring and calibration practices, using a variety of test equipment. In addition to providing support in the production spaces, the participant will also be called upon to assist in facilitating artists in the setup and operation of audio systems for composition and creation. What does the Program Offer? Mentoring by staff audio technologist and audio recording and post engineers, as well as other technologists. Classes with audio staff and internationally-renowned guest faculty. Involvement in ongoing research and testing of new technologies for audio production initiatives. Developing skills for basic equipment repairs. Interacting with other international audio engineers as well as professional musicians and artists in other disciplines. Access to professionally-equipped studio spaces. Who Should Apply? Applicants should have a combination of formal training and professional experience or aptitude in audio technology. Basic practical knowledge of electronics and soldering is essential, as well as working knowledge of PC and Mac environments. Some knowledge of Pyramix and ProTools is desirable. Application Deadline: March 4, 2020 Dates: May 4 – October 30, 2020 The tuition fee is covered 100% by financial assistance from Banff Centre. Successful applicants will receive a daily living allowance while part of the program. Practicums are responsible for their own room and board costs but are eligible for subsidized Banff Centre housing based on availability.
