Treasurer
Cowtown Opera is a signature artistic company in Calgary, surprising audiences with cheeky, English-language interpretations of operatic classics, remarkable vocal calibre, and daring new projects. At Cowtown, we support the development of emerging local talent and explore the intersection of classical and popular culture with innovative and contemporary performances.
Cowtown Opera is looking for a dynamic candidate to join the board of directors and finance committee as treasurer.
The ideal candidate will have a strong financial background.
Your responsibilities will include:
- Maintain knowledge of the organization and personal commitment to its goals and objectives.
- Understand financial accounting for non-profit organizations.
- Serve as the chair of the finance committee.
- Work with the executive director to ensure that appropriate financial reports are made available to the board on a timely basis.
- Work with the executive director to ensure that appropriate financial reports are filed with granting and regulatory bodies on a timely basis.
- Organize the annual audit (self-audit or external as appropriate ) and review with the board.
- Participate in other board activities and responsibilities.
You are the person we are looking for if you possess:
- Experience in a non-profit arts board, with demonstrated experience in finance or accounting.
- CPA or other professional designation.
- Strong budgeting and financial management skills.
- Excellent communication skills (written and oral) and excellent interpersonal leadership and collaboration skills.
- A strong work ethic, problem-solving mindset, and tenacity.
- A passion for the performing arts.
This is a volunteer role with a term of up to four years. Approximate time commitment is eight hours per month.
