Fund Development Officer – Grants, Foundations and Strategic Partnerships

Calgary Opera is one of the most innovative and ambitious professional opera companies in Canada. Elevated HR Solutions is excited to support their efforts in hiring a fund development officer for grants, foundations and strategic partnerships to join their team.

This role reports to the director of fund development and is responsible for researching and writing grants that will support the vision of Calgary Opera.

The fund development officer – grants, foundations and strategic partnerships is accountable for maintaining positive relationships with existing and potential funding sources, preserving complete records of past and current proposals, and continuously researching potential funding organizations and possible grant opportunities.

The goal is to advance the organization’s position with relevant stakeholders, as well as to drive a broader profile for the organization.

As the fund development officer your day-to-day responsibilities will include:

  • Research, preparation, and development of grant proposals based on corporate guidelines and priorities.
  • Assisting in the development of annual reports and newsletters.
  • Maintaining the grant database for future reference proposals.
  • Managing fund resources by interacting with funding organizations and following up on application status, organizing regular meetings and status updates, and documenting issues and recommendations.
  • Tracking pending and ongoing proposals.
  • Follow up impact reporting in a detailed and timely fashion.
  • Representing the Calgary Opera in a professional, friendly manner and building strong relationships with all stakeholders.
  • Maintaining relationships with major funding bodies, including Canada Council (CC), Canadian Heritage, Alberta Foundation for the Arts (AFA), Calgary Arts Development Authority (CADA), and the Calgary Foundation.
  • Adherence to the Canada Revenue Agencies (CRAs) policies and procedures and ethical fundraising approaches and guidelines

The right candidate will demonstrate on their resume:

  • Minimum four+ years progressive experience in fundraising to advance an organization’s mission and goals in a non-profit environment.
  • Bachelor’s degree in journalism, communications, or related field.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Proven history of building and maintaining meaningful relationships with key stakeholders.
  • Superior attention to detail and strong organizational skills.
  • Proficiency in writing and presenting to senior level management.
  • Experience making strategic plans actionable
