Volunteer Opportunities June 22, 2023 Call for General Board of Directors Quickdraw Animation Society seeks to fill four open roles on our board of directors. Joining our board means getting an inside look to strategic planning, policy work and dreaming big for our little charity. Be a part of steering Quickdraw and gain valuable experience in arts governance. The QAS Board of Directors is currently seeking up to four new general board members to serve in non-executive positions (i.e. not resident, vice-president, secretary or treasurer). If being on the executive is of interest, please let us know. QAS is coming up to some exciting milestones like our 40th birthday, and our 20th animation festival, GIRAF. Help us make the next few years as cool as it can be. Sit on a committee, get involved and help animate our community! If that sounds like fun, read further. About Quickdraw Incorporated in 1984, the Quickdraw Animation Society (QAS) is Calgary’s home for independent animation. One of Canada’s leading artist-run centres, we promote the art of animation through courses, workshops, screenings and production resources. The mission of Quickdraw Animation Society is to foster a creative community through resources and opportunities that further animation arts and culture. Approaching its 40th anniversary, QAS is home to Canada’s largest non-profit animation studio, state-of-the-art animation facilities and the largest animation resource library in Western Canada. We have hundreds of active members, solid financials and decades of goodwill in the local, provincial, national and international arts communities. We punch well above our weight; we are a small but mighty organization. Through classes for adults and youth, workshops, outreach, programming, in-house productions, film screenings, and innovative educational and artistic endeavours, QAS is a leader in the non-profit arts ecosystem. For more information, check out our website at quickdrawanimation.ca. Targets: To promote a diverse membership by welcoming all individuals. To cultivate healthy communities by encouraging creative expression through animation. To foster a high level of artistic excellence by serving as a hub for innovation and creativity. Responsibilities of Individual Board Members Each individual board member is expected to: Understand the organization’s mission, policies, programs and needs. Serve as active advocates and ambassadors for QAS to the larger community. Fully engage in advancing the interests and goals of the organization and its members. Prepare for, attend, and conscientiously participate in our board meetings and AGM. If possible, help with our casino fundraisers, held roughly every 18 months. Make it your own! The board is always open to members wanting to pursue roles like volunteer management, Equity, Diversity, Inclusion and Accessibility (EDIA) initiatives, or sitting on QAS committees (programming, production, accessibility, etc). To apply: Have an active QAS membership ($25 for the year). Have another QAS member nominate you at the AGM on June 28. Be elected by the QAS community at large at the AGM. Need a nomination? Membership fee a barrier? Reach out to Mackenzie Bedford for more information at firstname.lastname@example.org. Board experience is not required to join, simply a love for animation and commitment to community. This is a volunteer role. Please expect a minimum 2-3 hour monthly commitment. If you have any questions, concerns or wish to express your interest in joining the QAS Board, please email Board President Mackenzie Bedford at email@example.com.
