StoryBook Theatre is currently seeking a community engagement associate summer intern to work with us over the summer!

StoryBook Theatre is Canada’s largest volunteer-driven theatres’ for young audiences and families. In our almost 45 years of serving Calgary, we have fostered the love and passion for theatre arts in over one million people. Each season we bring together some of the industries brightest emerging talents both on and off the stage to create some incredibly accessible theatre for the whole family.

We bring stories to life in a way that encourages children and their families to dream about who they are and may become, to explore the story from different perspectives, to think using inductive reasoning, and to connect to other people and ideas.

We are always looking for vibrant experienced community-focused individuals to join our volunteer board of directors. We seek individuals with a variety of experience and in particular, the following areas would be a great asset to our board: diversity, fundraising, accounting, marketing and communications. The SBT Board of Directors is committed to achieving a member composition that is representative of the organization and community it serves, and to maintaining purposeful consideration to the inclusion of members of the following groups BIPOC, LGBTQ2S+ and persons with disabilities.

Job Overview

Supported by StoryBook’s board of directors, the community engagement associate will be responsible for helping the board secure sponsorship for the upcoming season through grant applications, proposal creation, and helping to develop relationships with prospective and existing donors. This position is funded by an eight-week grant and is open to any individual under 30 years of age.

The ideal candidate should have strong communication skills and be comfortable connecting with people. Previous fundraising and grant writing experience is not required, only a drive to learn more about fund development and a willingness to learn (this position will receive ongoing mentorship from a StoryBook board member). The candidate should also have a passion for the arts (particularly theatre) and be committed to diversity, equity and inclusion.

Duties will include:

  • Filling out online grant applications on behalf of StoryBook
  • Helping to report on existing grants
  • Contacting prospective season sponsors (email and/or telephone)
  • Attending meetings with donors and volunteers when needed
  • Supporting other sponsorship and fundraising initiatives
  • Helping to develop a prospect list through researching

This is an ideal position for any individual looking to develop skills and proficiencies in Fund Development and will provide a secure eight-week contract for the summer of 2023.
