Who You Are and What You Will Do

The digital programs consultant (DPC) will be a central figure in the evolution of the National accessArts Centre’s (NaAC) digital program development. Reporting to the manager, studio (MS), and working closely with the director, artist & program development (DAPD) and the lead, programs & exhibitions (LPE), the DPC will help ensure that the NaAC’s roster of artists living with disabilities have access to progressive and accessible artistic training in the visual arts.

With guidance and input from the MS, DAPD, and LPE, the DPC will develop online training programs that will demonstrate meaningful outcomes that aim to advance the artistic practice of each of our artists. The DPC will work to ensure that our online programs meet the artistic goals of participants, while remaining accessible to a variety of learning styles and abilities working remotely. The DPC will work directly with artists, the NaAC team, and past surveys of artist needs, and current work to develop a curriculum for artists connecting the NaAC via online platforms. We have heard from our artists who would like training in a variety of visual arts foundations, the DPC will set a roadmap of best practices and for the NaAC to implement.

Accessibility Audit of Current Practices (20%):

  • Review suite of NaAC online programs and NaAC data from artist interviews, support interviews, participant engagement, artist goals.
  • Conduct interviews and hold conversations with NaAC artists to help evaluate current programs and drive the design of the next phase of online programs.

Online Programs Strategy (70%):

  • Develop a program strategy and roadmap that incorporates learnings from the accessibility audit, making recommendations as to how best to meet artists’ needs in their continued artistic development.
  • Develop a 3-month test curriculum for NaAC to implement in fall/winter 2022/23.

Technology Recommendations (10%):

  • Recommend capture and broadcast technology and software for NaAC purchase that will ensure artists connected remotely have a quality and accessible experience of the foundational training program.

Desired Competencies:

  • Experience working towards accessible artistic training is a must (includes experience areas such as arts education, public programs, alternative education or advanced artistic training).
  • Solid technical understanding of visual arts foundations.

Contract Outline:

  • Total value of contract is $15,000 CAD.
  • Applicants with lived experience with disability will be prioritized.
  • As a contractor, you will provide your own workspace, equipment, and software; manage and pay your own sub-contractors; submit invoices for payment.
  • When on-site access is required, support and accommodation will be provided for individuals with a disability, as available, upon request.
  • A clean vulnerable sector police check will be required.
