Donor Relations Coordinator

In its 50th anniversary season, Calgary Opera is one of the most innovative and ambitious professional opera companies in Canada and is looking to bring on its newest donor relations coordinator. In this role, you will have the opportunity to make an impact by assisting the team in developing relationships with key donors, while implementing systems and processes vital to the success of the company’s overall mission to recruit, develop and showcase top Canadian talent in the industry.

As the donor relations coordinator, your day-to-day responsibilities will include:

  • Collaborating with the director of development and associate director of development to implement donor relations strategies.
  • Focusing on deepening Calgary Opera’s relationship with those closest to the organization through donor recognition and stewardship.
  • Direct donor communication (telephone, email and in-person conversations and announcements) with Impresario Circle members.
  • Donor care and continued relationship building with Impresario donors, including extensive direct communication and implementation of value-added experiences i.e., behind-the-scenes performances, curated donor experiences.
  • Managing Calgary Opera merchandise for purchase as a revenue stream and gifts for appreciation.
  • Effective and efficient management of the CRM system, Tessitura, including income and expense reporting, solicitation, income tracking, research and general data on prospects.
  • Managing monthly giving programs.
  • Coordinating tax receipting and donor recognition letters.
  • Coordinating thank-you calls and special appreciation measures with the development committee.
  • Making recommendations to implement systems and processes throughout the full donor cycle to ensure a consistent and responsive donor experience.
  • Preparing monthly reports for director and board level understanding.
  • Supporting management and the organization in creating and executing special events for both fundraising and donor appreciation.
  • Representing the Calgary Opera in a professional, friendly manner and building strong relationships with all stakeholders.
  • Adherence to the Canada Revenue Agencies (CRAs) policies and procedures and ethical fundraising approaches and guidelines, in association with Calgary Opera finance department.
  • Ensuring accurate donor recognition in mainstage programs and on website.

The right candidate will demonstrate on their resume:

  • Post-secondary education in non-profit studies, sales, communications, or a related field.
  • 1 – 3+ years’ experience in a non-profit, fund development setting.
  • Prior experience with database management and CRM systems; knowledge of Tessitura is considered an asset.
  • Advanced knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook, etc.).
