Duties and responsibilities

Reporting to the associate artistic director, the education and outreach coordinator will facilitate and assist with the operations and development of Theatre Calgary’s Education and Wrap Around programming. These programs aim to provide accessible information and activities that engage and enlighten participants about our plays, the world of theatre and the performing arts.

Education and Outreach Duties

  • Support associate artistic director to develop summer camp, spring break camp, in-school seasonal programming and residency initiatives from curriculum creation to program execution.
  • Head summer camp & spring break camp administrative support (webpage content & updates, registration management, payment oversight, interfacing with public, social media campaigns, etc.)
  • Establish, grow and manage roster of teaching artists.
  • Assist with and manage Education Wrap-Around Programming (student matinee talkbacks, teacher workshops, residency workshops, etc.).
  • Manage and facilitate dissemination and production of the play guides (teaching tools pamphlet given to schools in advance of attending a performance with production information, theatre etiquette, interesting peripheral information, and lesson plans).
  • With associate artist director, generate additional educational programming inclusive of managing relationships with schoolteachers, parents and guardians etc.
  • Assist the associate artistic director in other outreach initiatives.
  • General duties — other duties as needed or assigned.

Experience and Qualifications

  • Education/teaching background (preferably 3 – 5 years) with knowledge of theatre arts and drama curriculums specifically.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Strategic planning skills.
  • Strong proficiency with Microsoft Office suite, including Word, Excel and PowerPoint.
  • Strong interpersonal communications skills.
  • Ability to solve problems with creativity and efficiency.
  • Ability to collaborate with department lead in devising, outlining and executing programming.
  • Ability to work some holidays, as required (e.g. summer, spring break, professional development days).
  • Knowledge of Tessitura or comparable CRM software preferred.

Working conditions

This is a part-time position that may require some holiday work depending on when initiatives are planned: 24 hours of work per week.

Remuneration and Benefits

Salary $32,000 per annum plus overtime when required.

Healthcare benefits and RRSP matching plan after three months.
