Forte Musical Theatre is casting the following roles for the premiere production of Buy Me a Drink, Joe.

Buy Me a Drink, Joe is a new musical to celebrate the 15th anniversary of Forte Musical Theatre’s first show. Forte artistic director Joe Slabe uses songs from his back catalogue, as well as newly composed material, to tell the story of how he reached this milestone.

Forte Musical Theatre is committed to reflecting the diversity of our community. We believe in equity and inclusion, and strongly encourage submissions from those who self-identify as being from under-represented groups. Forte will consider all qualified individuals in our hiring decisions regardless of gender, age, race, sexual orientation or physical ability. We will consider actors of any ethnicity or cultural background for each of the following roles.

Actor 1: Playing younger Joe at ages ranging from 15 to 35, Pop Bari-tenor A2 – A4. A young man searching for his vocation in life. Strong narrator. Driven and insecure, but with a dark sense of humour. Ability to play guitar at an intermediate level is required and rudimentary piano skills are an asset but not essential. Please be prepared to demonstrate your ability as a guitarist to be considered for this role.

Actor 2: Playing David at ages ranging from 15 to 35, Bari-tenor G2 – G4. Joe’s high school friend, writing partner and, later, husband. Confident and laid back, with a great sense of fun.

Stage Manager — the successful candidate will be an Equity stage manager with a track record of managing and calling musicals. Excellent organizational and inter-personal skills are required, as is the ability to read music.

Interested actors are asked to submit a photo and resume to Artistic Director, Joe Slabe, at fortemusical@gmail.com by Sunday, January 14, 2024.

Interested stage managers should submit a resume highlighting relevant experience.

Those chosen for auditions will be asked to prepare material from the show and a musical theatre song of your choice. An accompanist will be provided or you may bring your own accompanist or recorded accompaniment.

Auditions will be held during the afternoon of Wednesday, January 17, 2024 in Calgary.

Rehearsals begin on Tuesday, April 2, 2024 and the production runs from April 23 to May 5, 2024 at the cSPACE Studio Theatre.
