Archived January 19, 2021 Etching With Zinc and Copper Sulphate Date: Tuesday, February 16, 2021 Time: 6:30 – 8:30pm Location: Zoom Cost: $35 for members, $38 for CJSW Friends, $45 for non-members What You’ll Learn Zinc is a cheaper alternative to copper for etching plates. In this demonstration you will learn how you can create an etched plate ready for printing with safe materials that you can buy in the hardware store or supermarket! Using copper sulfate, salt, Johnson’s Clear Finish liquid wax, washing soda, and duct tape, you can etch a zinc plate (aluminium or steel works too) in a plastic tub. This is very safe and there is great benefit to be able to do this all at home, before you head out to the studio to use the press to print. Eveline will demonstrate all the steps in the process and etch a plate (and print it). Full information on where to source the materials will be given. Prepare for some great results and having fun just messing around and discover how materials respond. For more information and to register, visit albertaprintmakers.com.
