Shelf Life Books seeks an organized, enthusiastic and detail-oriented person to join its team as events coordinator.

The events coordinator is responsible for planning, hosting and overseeing literary events both within the store and at partner venues. The events coordinator reports to the manager and works with the store’s events team, publishers, reps, partners and authors to organize and execute events from start to finish.

Responsibilities include:

  • Communicate in a timely manner with manager, authors, speakers or publicists in regard to all events.
  • Organize and document event details from start to finish.
  • Develop a relationship with key contacts in the literary community.
  • Act as event host in-store and deliver Treaty 7 Acknowledgement.
  • Work offsite events from set-up to takedown.
  • Work with reps and publishers to source and track event stock.
  • Post-event evaluation and invoice tracking.
  • Design event posters, digital graphics, and web banners.
  • Some management of social media (Twitter, Facebook).
  • Maintaining and updating in-store event displays and posters.
  • Posting and sending out event listings on schedule.
  • In-store and offsite customer point of sale and post event cash-outs.
  • Maintain excellent communication and documentation at all times.
  • Additional bookseller duties, such as sales, customer service, store maintenance, book receiving and shelving.
  • Other duties involving bookselling or events.

Desired Qualifications:

  • Experience in or familiarity with the literary industry or community.
  • Previous experience in communications or event planning.
  • Love of books, literature, and reading; familiar with current literary landscape and interest in the local writing community.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Highly organized, detail-oriented, and efficient worker.
  • Ability to multitask, work independently, and meet deadlines.
  • Ability to represent the store with positivity and professionalism.
  • Ability to work a flexible schedule, evenings, and weekends.
  • Valid Driver’s License and access to a vehicle.
  • Knowledge of Outlook, OneNote, WordPress, iCal, Canva, Facebook, and Twitter is an asset.

This position starts at 30+ hours/week (4-5 shifts per week) with an hourly wage and offers a discount on books, health benefits package (after 3-month period), and free parking. This position does not offer work-from-home hours.
