Executive Director

Are you passionate about the art of cinema? Do you have experience in non-profits or arts and culture organizations? Calgary Cinematheque Society (CCS) is looking to expand its team with the opening of the role of executive director (ED).

Reporting to the president of CCS, the duties of the ED will be as follows:

Financial: Grant Writing and Fund Development

  • Getting spending approval and keeping track of receipts in cooperation with other staff members and assisting in financial record keeping and bill payments as necessary.

  • Writing grant reports and applications in relation to operating funds and arts presentation grants. Specific goal of achieving Arts Presenter core funding.

  • Working with the board to create a strategy for donor relations and fundraising.

  • Coordinating annual casino events as Casino Chair.

Board Support and Operations:

  • Represent the board, organization, and its mission to partners, funders and the community at large.

  • Community liaison in order to facilitate cross-purpose cultural and artistic events and relationships with different organizations in the Calgary area when needed.

  • Generate ideas related to film events that could be lucrative for community engagement.

  • Board meeting bookings: maintenance, organization and invitations regarding the board meeting calendar, including annual AGM, throughout the year.

  • Attend CCS board meetings and committee meetings as necessary.

  • Work closely with the Board Chair to coordinate board strategic development, including recruiting and helping manage the Board of Directors.

  • Work closely with Governance Committee to ensure internal organization and updated information of members.

  • Managing and overseeing other staff providing support and mentorship, including hiring and job evaluations.

  • Maintaining web services needed for essential CCS operations (Google Suite, Zoom, Squarespace, Showpass, Lastpass, etc.).

The executive director (ED) role will be a contractor (up to 40 hours per month), paid at a rate of $35 hourly, and is a one-year contract, subject to renewal.
