Fund Development Officer

The Fund Development Officer is responsible for personally identifying, cultivating, and soliciting donor prospects to maximize total gift revenue for Calgary Opera in accordance with set performance targets and in collaboration with other Development Department team members.  The successful candidate must be imaginative, cooperative, highly self-motivated, and possess outstanding interpersonal skills.  Knowledge of opera is desirable; a passion for the performing arts is essential.  Some nights and weekends required, particularly during performance and events season.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Create and execute an Annual Giving campaign for reaching individual fund goals, including face to face solicitations, direct mail, tele-fundraising, and web-based/email.
  • Ensure the continuous flow of prospects and moves management candidates through the donor “pipeline”, from single ticket buyers and subscribers to annual gift donors, Impresario Circle membership and Major Gifts.
  • Cultivate and solicit a select portfolio of assigned Major Gift prospects in conjunction with Development Director.
  • Make effective use of prospect management database and other institutional resources to ensure appropriate management of donors, prospects, and patrons.
  • Work with Board members in engaging them in the donor cultivation process, setting timelines and targets.
  • Monitor and report on the status of all relationships through call activity reports and prospect review discussions.
  • Review and ensure accuracy in program-related donor listings, on the website and in other publications and media.
  • Create and execute a plan and timetable to ensure deliverables are met and relationships with donors are sustained and expanded.
  • Remain current on new opportunities for donor engagement and points of entry.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree.
  • At least five years experience, preferably in the individual gift patron programs, along with knowledge of direct response individual campaigns.
  • Excellent written, oral and interpersonal skills.
  • Experience with database management.
  • A working knowledge of Tessitura is an asset.
