General Manager

The general manager (GM) is an essential pillar of the operating team of One Voice Chorus Society (OVC), working with the board of directors (Board), the artistic director (AD), the treasury team, and various volunteer committees within the chorus. This part-time, one-year renewable contract position reports directly to the board and is integral for the smooth day-to-day operation of the chorus.

Duties & Responsibilities

Choir Administration & Communications:

  • Communicate and coordinate with the AD, board and chorus members to ensure the smooth operation of the chorus.
  • Manage the GM and Info email accounts and respond and/or forward emails as appropriate.
  • Manage and maintain the OVC internal email accounts.
  • Manage the OVC cellphone and respond to calls as appropriate. Manage access to the storage unit and assets contained within.
  • Maintain Google Drive access, and OVC events calendar as required.

Promotion & Production of Concerts and Events:

  • Manage production and use of promotional materials; including print, digital and social media accounts.
  • Maintain OVC brand standards in all aspects of public presentation.
  • Manage production of choir concerts and events in coordination with the AD, board treasury team and volunteer committees.

Other Administrative Duties:

  • Maintain accurate operation records and reports to assist the board, AD and treasury team in ensuring that OVC is operating within the government regulations of a non-profit organization.
  • Be aware of and advise on upcoming funding opportunities and deadlines, and assist the Board of Directors and designated volunteers in writing applications and funding reports.

Qualifications:

  • Excellent interpersonal skills
  • Excellent English communication skills
  • Experience with the Google Workspace
  • Highly organized but flexible
  • Passion for choral music an asset
  • Experience in grant writing and fundraising an asset
  • Access to home computer with internet (printer an asset)
  • Access to personal vehicle
  • Previous experience with arts organizations an asset
  • Experience in promotion and publicity

Expected Hours & Compensation

An average of 40 hours per month, or 10 hours per week over the calendar year. Attendance at monthly board meetings is required as well as attendance at Monday rehearsals periodically to conduct OVC business as needed. Weekly hours can be expected to increase leading up to concerts and events, and decrease during the summer months while the choir is not active. This position has a $15,000/year honorarium, paid monthly by direct deposit.
