Grounds Maintenance Worker

The grounds maintenance worker will work closely with the grounds and facilities manager to maintain the 80-acre property of the Leighton Art Centre.

Hours: Saturday, Sunday, Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday 8:00am to 2:00pm
Wage: $18 per hour
Reports to: Dave Parkinson, Manager of Grounds and Facilities

The Leighton Art Centre has a rich history as a place for creative expression and artistic endeavour. Situated on in the magnificent foothills landscape southwest of Calgary, the Leighton Art Centre features the historic home of renowned artists A.C. and Barbara Leighton. We offer a space to explore, appreciate, and create long-lasting connections to art and nature. With our museum, art gallery, shop, and education centre we continually enrich our community with ongoing exhibitions, workshops, and events.

Grounds Maintenance Worker will:

  • Be a vital member of the LAC team and will assist in the day-to-day upkeep of grounds and facilities of the Leighton Art Centre.
  • Work with manager of grounds and facilities to preserve and maintain heritage buildings.
  • Ensure indoor and outdoor spaces are clean and safe for visitors.
  • Assist with gardening and trail management.
  • Assist with annual spring clean-up efforts including clearing deadfall from trees, cleaning eavestroughs, doing paint touch-ups, and more.
  • Assist with program support from time-to-time, including exhibition installation, material prep for summer camps, event setup, and more.

This position will develop skills in teamwork, communication, and leadership.

Teamwork

The grounds maintenance worker will work closely with the Grounds and Facilities Manager. They will be expected to coordinate tasks, share resources, plan, make decisions, negotiate, and lend a hand where needed.

Communication

The grounds maintenance worker will develop their communication skills through interaction with fellow employees, volunteers, their supervisor, and the public.

Leadership

The grounds maintenance worker will enhance their leaderships skills in this role by building relationships, communicating effectively, working as a team member, demonstrating initiative, and taking responsibility for the completion of tasks.

Requirements:

  • Must be able to work outdoors in various weather conditions.
  • Ability to complete tasks as directed and take initiative work diligently when unsupervised.
  • Basic carpentry skills are an asset.
  • Artistic background is an asset.
  • Must be between the ages of 16 and 30 to be eligible for Canada Summer Jobs placement, and must be legally entitled to work in Alberta.
  • Must have a reliable vehicle and valid driver’s licences.
