Job Opportunities March 14, 2023 IKG Curator, Faculty Limited Term Alberta University of the Arts The Illingworth Kerr Gallery at Alberta University of the Arts (AUArts) invites applications for a limited term faculty appointment as IKG Curator starting August 2023. The term of this appointment is for up to five (5) academic years, 2023/24 – 2027/28. Why AUArts? Alberta University of the Arts rests on the traditional Treaty 7 Territories of the Blackfoot people and in the spirit of our collective effort to promote reconciliation, we acknowledge the traditional territories and oral practices of the Blackfoot Confederacy, which includes Siksika, Piikani and Kainai, the Tsuut’ina, the Stoney Nakoda First Nations (Bearspaw, Chiniki and Wesley), Metis Nation Region III, and all those who make their homes in the Treaty 7 Region of Southern Alberta. About the Illingworth Kerr Gallery (IKG) at AUArts The Illingworth Kerr Gallery (IKG) provides a platform for curated exhibitions and other forms of cultural research production, with a focus on contemporary visual culture. A vital part of AUArts’ Office of Research and Academic Affairs, it supports graduate and undergraduate learning, scholarly research, provides a rich mix of public programming, and participates in global dialogue by hosting local, regional and international artists working in a variety of disciplines. As AUArts continues to work towards creating an inclusive, equitable, accessible and diverse academic space for all, the IKG is committed to reducing barriers and building an equitable and inclusive community that fosters a respectful environment that values all perspectives in dialogue and creative practices. Responsibilities The successful candidate will: • Teach at least two credit courses per academic year. • Collaborate with relevant committees and faculty to integrate gallery exhibitions with teaching and research activities. • Establish and maintain relationships with regional, national and international art, craft and design communities, and develop initiatives to promote the institution and its programs externally. • Leads institutionally important activities, such as exhibition development tied to the university’s upcoming centennial. Qualifications The following qualifications have been determined to promote likelihood of success in the role. In alignment with the principles of inclusion, individuals with an alternative equivalent qualification may be considered. • A terminal degree in a relevant field (any of PhD, MFA, or MDes, for example). • Demonstrated gallery and/or guseum experience in a leadership or curatorial role and an active record of professional accomplishment. • Demonstrated experience teaching at the post-secondary level. • Evidence of a substantial professional and research practice, with a focus on socially engaged programming and curation. • Demonstrated commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion in the classroom and in all aspects of academic life.
