Educational Opportunities November 17, 2023 Intro to Reduction Linocut With Samantha Charette Instructor: Samantha Charette Duration: 4-evening workshop Dates: January 9, 16, 23 and 30, 2024 Times: 6:30 – 9pm This workshop is an introduction to the multi-colour reduction linocut process! Learn to make visually engaging linocut prints using a variety of mark-making carving techniques and by printing a single linocut in multiple colours through reduction. This four-evening workshop will cover image development for a two-layer reduction linocut, image transfer, carving the lino, proofing, creating a registration sheet, prepping your paper, setting up a press, and printing on a press. The learning in the workshop will take place through technical demonstrations and hands-on experience. The instructor will cover: Image development for a 2-layer reduction linocut print. Image transfer technique using transfer paper. Safe carving of the lino. Paper preparation. Registration creation. Proofing and printing on a press. Instructor Bio Samantha Charette (she/her) is a visual artist situated in Calgary, located on Treaty 7 region of Southern Alberta, Canada. Charette received her Bachelor of Fine Arts from the University of Alberta and a Master of Fine Arts from the University of Calgary. Charette is a visual artist that combines academic research with the production of art, with the goal of contributing to contemporary art discourse on interdisciplinary feminist practices. Charette’s work has been presented in exhibitions across Canada including at the Art Gallery of Alberta, Western GM Drumheller Art Gallery, Harcourt House, Nickle Galleries, Okotoks Art Gallery, Leighton Art Center, Alberta Printmakers Society, Latitude 53, FAB Gallery, and Museum London. Charette is a member of the Calgary based artist collective, The Fem Assembly, and a visual art instructor at the University of Calgary and Alberta University of the Arts.
