Making Space for Grief

Nickle at Noon Talk

Date: Thursday, March 2, 2023
Time: 12noon
Location: Nickle Galleries

Claudia Chagoya’s artistic practice explores topics related to gender violence and her socio-political background. Using materials rooted in Mexican culture with ties to various rituals: rebozos (shawls), salt, copal (tree resin) and sawdust, Chagoya’s work invites contemplation of mourning rituals.

Born in Zacatecas, Mexico, and based in Calgary, Chagoya holds an MFA degree from UCalgary, and a BFA from Instituto Allende in San Miguel de Allende, Mexico.

In 2022 Chagoya received The Calgary Catholic Immigration Society New Canadian Artist Award.

Nickle at Noon is presented live and in-person in the Gallery Hall, Taylor Family Digital Library, University of Calgary.
