About Mountain Standard Time

Mountain Standard Time (M:ST) is a non-for profit arts organization dedicated to the creation, research, and presentation of contemporary performative art practices. In all of our initiatives we forefront the public’s intimate engagement with experimental and risk-taking programming.

M:ST was established in 2001 as a unique collaborative endeavour between several local arts organizations and to this day, we connect local and global artistic communities through our unique partnerships. Our activities include residencies, publications, workshops, lectures, panel discussions internships, advocacy, and our biennial festival.

Call for Board Directors

M:ST is seeking board directors to serve a two-year volunteer term (renewable) who will bring dedication, energy, and experience to the organization. We are looking for people with a broad range of knowledge and skills, including accounting, fundraising and development, governance, human resources, marketing, and those with a strong interest in contemporary art practices. We especially welcome applications from artists, writers, curators, cultural workers, and those with previous board experience.

M:ST values diversity and inclusivity in our communities. We highly encourage applications from visible minority group members, Indigenous persons, persons with disabilities, persons of minority sexual orientations and gender identities, and others with the skills and knowledge to productively engage with diverse communities.

Requirements:

  • An interest in contemporary art and commitment to the work of the organization.
  • Willingness to serve on committees.
  • Attendance at monthly board meetings, committee meetings.
  • Support of, and participation in, M:ST activities (fundraising, programming activities, etc.).
  • Ability to contribute specific skills and attributes in one or more areas of board governance.

General Duties

Board directors are fully informed on organizational matters and participate in the board’s deliberations and decisions in the matters of policy, finance, programming, personnel and advocacy.

Additionally, they:

  • Determine mission and purpose.
  • Select the artistic and production directors.
  • Support and evaluate the directors.
  • Ensure effective planning.
  • Ensure adequate financial resources.
  • Protect assets and provide proper financial oversight.
  • Build a competent board.
  • Ensure legal and ethical integrity.
  • Enhance the organization’s public standing.

The deadline for nominations is Friday, July 12, 2019.

Nominations will be evaluated by the current board and staff. Successful applicants will be nominated to the board at M:ST’s upcoming annual general meeting on Tuesday, July 16, 2019.
