New Forum is seeking unpublished work by writers and artists in Alberta for our third issue. We’re a revival of Forum, a grassroots feminist magazine published from 1988-2002 by the Calgary Women’s Writing Project. We accept fiction, poetry, nonfiction, art, and photography from writers and artists living within what’s colonially known as Alberta: the territory of Treaty 6, 7, and 8 nations, and the Métis Nation of Alberta. We prioritize the work of creators who face barriers to publication and success in CanLit. This includes, but is certainly not limited to Black and Indigenous writers; writers of colour; women; queer, trans, Two-Spirit, and nonbinary artists; and artists with visible or invisible disabilities. We make this happen with an intentional selection process and a committed editorial collective. Get a feel for the type of work we publish by purchasing our first two issues online! This is our first issue with our new editor, Leah Horlick, who is so looking forward to reading your work. You can also learn more about us on Instagram @NewForumAB. About Submitting to New Forum The deadline for submissions is January 1, 2021. We want to respect you and your work by providing a reasonable response time. You can expect to hear back from us about your piece(s) by February 28, 2021. We accept simultaneous submissions! Let us know in your cover letter if you have submitted your work elsewhere, and please tell us immediately if your work is accepted. Please be sure to send us work that has not been published in print or online. All contributors are paid $50 upon publication. Submission Guidelines Submissions are to be sent to firstname.lastname@example.org with a short cover letter that includes a 75-word bio. Poetry: Please submit a maximum of five poems (up to seven pages) as a PDF, DOC or DOCX. Fiction and Nonfiction: Please submit a maximum of 2,500 words as a PDF, DOC or DOCX. Visual art and Photography: Please send up to five low-resolution samples. (If accepted, we will require high-resolution images via Dropbox or another file hosting service.) We accept submissions in colour for cover consideration, but please be aware that images inside the magazine are printed in black and white.
