Archived March 4, 2022 Pre-College Program Our pre-college program is taking place between July 5 to 30 2022, and we are currently looking for our 2022 participants! Early bird applications are now open. For students 16 to 18 years old who’ve completed either Grade 10, 11 or 12. Pre-college is an accredited month-long, intensive program held each summer and focuses on building your portfolio, a key element of our bachelor’s degree application process while giving you a chance to check out campus life at the Alberta University of the Arts (AUArts). The pre-college program builds your intellectual, artistic, and practical skills to set you up for success with your post-secondary studies. You get to experience university-level expectations and pacing while earning three AUArts degree credits that count towards a first-year elective course. This program is also recognized by other art schools, and credits are transferable. Each week, you will receive 25 hours of instructional time that is supported by additional studio hours after class and evening events. Fine Arts: Two full days in a studio Design: Two full days in a studio Program Goals Recognize and investigate relationships between fine arts and design. Experiment with several drawing processes and subject matters. Be able to recognize and apply basic elements of design in a variety of forms. Understand the importance of professional presentation. Develop a critical vocabulary to discuss your own work and the work of others. Develop skills in descriptive and interpretive methods necessary to analysis visual imagery. Demonstrate critical thinking about the relationship of form, materials, and content. During the month, you will also take part in extra activities designed to broaden your horizons and have fun including: Individual portfolio reviews. Admissions presentations & preparation Evening events: portfolio preparation workshops and life drawing classes. Group exhibition and ceremony.
