Product Designer

Helcim is searching for an experienced product designer to join our design team. The successful candidate will be responsible for designing functional, easy to use software for our merchants.

The product designer will work within the design team while collaborating with cross-functional business groups including product managers, UX engineers and developers. The ideal candidate is passionate about design and technology, has an extensive knowledge of user experience methodologies and is able to execute on research findings, by creating modern and polished visual experiences.

What you will do:

  • Design with purpose utilizing both data and research.
  • Contribute to the training of junior designers… this is essential for us to scale.
  • Conduct Design Studio sessions in a collaborative and thought-provoking environment… where great ideas are born.
  • Execute high quality visual design.
  • Keep stakeholders informed on project progress.
  • Continually brainstorm with UX engineers to always improve the quality of the user experience being built.
  • Helping maintain and improve the Helcim design system—Blizzard… cool name eh!

Who you are:

  • Obsession for simplifying complex user experience flows… simplicity is extremely difficult.
  • Great sensibility for design & aesthetics… we mean it!
  • Have a research mindset that aims to investigate the problem, leverage UX methods to uncover findings and elaborate on solutions accordingly.
  • Understanding of lean/agile approaches when researching or implementing solutions.
  • Firm grasp of how to develop and work within design systems and patterns.
  • Ability to manage time effectively without compromising product quality.
  • Always willing to take constructive criticism… we are nice but candid.
  • Collaborative attitude that prioritizes teamwork over individual work.
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and oral, combined with strong interpersonal skills… don’t worry, you don’t need to be Shakespeare.

Must provide a design portfolio showcasing UX design projects with beautiful hi-fi design mockups… this is the most important component of the application.

Bonus Qualification:

  • Understanding of CSS/HTML.
  • Experience designing complex or enterprise-level software.

Candidates must be eligible to work in Canada. Helcim uses a hybrid work structure where team members can work three days in the Calgary office and two days at home. Staff are required to be fully vaccinated to work in our office and participate in company events.
