Residential Schools Memorial

The Alberta Government is working with First Nations, Métis and Inuit communities to establish a permanent memorial on the Alberta Legislature grounds for victims of the residential school system. This memorial is a reminder of the personal and intergenerational trauma many Indigenous people have experienced for generations. We also hope it will be a place that supports education and healing.

Indigenous Relations recently posted an Expression of Interest (attached) on the Alberta Purchasing Connection seeking an Indigenous artist to establish this permanent memorial.

This expression of interest will close on July 29, 2022.

More information and eligibility criteria can be found on the Indigenous Relations website: alberta.ca/residential-schools-memorial.

Please share this information with an Indigenous artist you know or, if you are an artist, consider applying.

We have staff available to answer questions you might have.
