Retail Supervisor

RICK RACK Textiles is hiring a retail supervisor, full time, to lead our team with spreading the sewing joy and assisting the public with selecting fabrics, patterns, notions, and classes.

The initial rate of pay for this position is $17/hr for 40 hours of work per week, with perks such as flexible scheduling, free classes, product discounts, and additional perks at our sister store, STASH.

The right candidate for the position must be available to work weekdays and at least one weekend day as a part of their ongoing schedule.

Key Skills for the position:

  • Must be comfortable with modern garment sewing — intermediate level or higher is preferred.
  • Previous retail experience is required, supervisory retail experience is an asset.
  • Strong, positive communication skills are required — must enjoy helping others.
  • Must be patient and a good listener.
  • Ability to lead and inspire in a team environment is a must.
  • Knowledge of other crafts are an asset.
  • Experience with Shopify is an asset.

Duties:

  • Directly supervise the retail operations for RICK RACK, which includes working retail shifts*.
  • Model excellent customer service for employees.
  • Collaborate with management to develop retail policies, goals, objectives, and procedures.
  • Check merchandise to make sure it’s correctly priced, displayed, and meets quality standards.
  • Continually identify ways to improve the retail experience with creative merchandising and other retail-specific opportunities.
  • Monitor inventory levels and communicate with managers as needed.
  • Make sure storefront is clean and organized.
  • Identify and assign projects to team members.
  • Mentor the retail team by identifying training opportunities, providing constructive feedback, and recognizing jobs well done.
  • Train employees to use equipment and complete job related tasks such as using the cash register, greeting customers, and handling common customer inquiries.
  • Create inventory and sales reports for management.
  • Act as lead on customer inquiries and concerns.
  • Enforce health, safety, and security rules.

General Retail Duties:

  • Providing excellent customer service, offering assistance with pattern selection and fabric pairings, cutting fabric and haberdashery to measure.
  • Answering phone and email inquiries.
  • Processing payments and refunds using a POS system, booking workshops & processing services online & in person.
  • Assisting with Shopify/ e-commerce order fulfillment.
  • Assisting with social media posts during retail shifts.
  • Processing print job requests from customers.
  • Completing opening and/or closing duties.
