Spotlight on Arts Audiences

Alberta continues to be at a crossroads brought by a pandemic that has changed public life and reshaped our economy. This is especially true in the Arts & Culture sector, which continues to experience a decline in engagement with events and activities. The Rozsa Foundation, in partnership with the Alberta Foundation for the Arts, Calgary Arts Development, Calgary Foundation, Edmonton Arts Council and Edmonton Community Foundation, is working with Stone-Olafson on the Spotlight on Arts Audiences Research Project, a two-year program that will track arts audiences across Alberta. The work will survey arts-inclined audiences in Calgary, Edmonton and elsewhere in the province to provide data that is useful and timely for arts leaders and organizations three times per year over the next two years. We invite you to attend the first Spotlight on Arts Audiences presentation this month, where we will share the results of the first wave of research. This work was developed for this sector exclusively and builds upon research that began in 2020. It is designed to provide specific, relevant and reliable facts to support leaders in the arts & culture sector as they seek to understand their audiences and grow attendance. The results from this first wave of research include:

  • Current audience behaviours, habits and patterns
  • Current attitudes and perceptions towards the arts
  • Barriers to engagement and support
  • Programming and communication preferences
  • Perceptions of value in a tight economy

This work is designed to be shared and used by the arts community, so feel free to share this information widely! We will hold one event in Edmonton, and one in Calgary, and registration is required for both. The results will also be shared subsequently in our newsletter if you are unable to attend the live events.Calgary Event:Date: Tuesday, January 16, 2024 from 3 to 5pmLocation: Studio Theatre, cSPACE Marda Loop, 1721 29 Ave. SW
