It lies somewhere beyond wit, charm and precision.

In this workshop, gain some insight into the origins of improvised theatre and the heart of the performer through the use of masks and mask ideas.

Experience how the impulse of transformation can come from something other than your thoughts, your concepts, your self. We will work with half (Trancemasks) and/or partial masks (noses, glasses, wigs, etc.) to give ourselves different inner and outer perception.

We will also play full masks to practice new physical and emotional states to reveal the stories of the audience as well as the personal feelings that go along with them.

Instructor Bio: Steve Jarand

Steve has been a member of Loose Moose Theatre Company since 1987. When not improvising, he performs children’s nature theatre in schools, mountain parks, museums and zoos. Steve also travels extensively looking for new cultural experiences and attending meditation retreats. Beginning with mask work in 1998, Steve established the Loose Moose Mask Group and has been collaborating and teaching with Keith Johnstone at home and abroad. Each year he teaches masks as well as improv and puppetry on tours of Europe and Canada.
