Embracing Uncertainty

As artists, we are accustomed to uncertainty. We create and exhibit our work with no guarantee of income or reception. However, when an event like a pandemic strike’s- uncertainty doesn’t seem to describe how artists are feeling. We may not feel as though we are being creative enough, making the most out of the quiet, or comparing ourselves more than ever. With canceled plans and projects put on hold it might feel difficult to find your purpose. What are we if we do not create? Who are we if we cannot see ourselves advance and somehow monetize this crisis?
Join us on September 27, 2020, at 2:00pm, for our first Umbrella Talks of 2020, Embracing Uncertainty: Mindful Mark Making with Paula Timm. Learn how Paula embraced her creativity during the most adverse time in her life. Follow along with Paula as she walks us through mindful mark-making and tips on reigniting and connecting to your creative practice.
This online workshop is completely free but donations are encouraged. Elephant Artist Relief (EAR) artists are paid a CARFAC rate for their time and all donations will be going towards our relief funds for artists in need.

For this workshop you will need… some but not all of the following:
- A substrate such as paper, canvas, or board
- Tape
- Watercolour, gouache, or acrylic paint
- Markers +/or pens (colored or gelli)
- Pencil +/ or crayons
- Palette
- Assorted paintbrushes
Paula Timm is a visual artist, instructor, and community builder with a passion for facilitating wellness through art. Dedicated to learning the connection between wellness and creative expression.
A visual storyteller, Paula Timm’s art conveys story through bold use of colour and dynamic marks. Often inspired by the shapes and patterns discovered in urban and rural landscapes, Paula’s art conveys movement and emotion: the use of vivid colours in her work imbues a sense of whimsy in each piece, as well as depth of insight that resonates with her life experiences.
Paula has a thriving art practice that blends her love of teaching, writing, and creating fine art. She hosts mixed media workshops and art classes for both children and adults. No prior experience is necessary and all abilities are warmly welcomed. She has exhibited extensively in Calgary.
