We serve diverse community needs through the Gray Family Eau Claire YMCA, Melcor YMCA at Crowfoot, Shawnessy YMCA, South Health Campus YMCA, Community YMCA, Saddletowne YMCA, Remington YMCA, and Camp Chief Hector YMCA. The YMCA also operates a stand-alone childcare centre in Quarry Park to serve 348 children… and we are only just getting started. In partnership with the City of Calgary, we will expand our impact operating new facilities Shane Homes YMCA in Rocky Ridge and Brookfield Residential YMCA at Seton. These amazing new spaces will help us reach more people through our passionate volunteers, members, and staff.

Role: Visual Arts Instructor – Part Time
Location: Brookfield Residential YMCA at Seton
Salary: $20 – 28/hour
Start Date: December 15, 2018

What Qualifications are we Looking for?

At YMCA Calgary we strive to ensure our employees are a fit based on their strengths, interests, and future goals.

The successful candidate will have the following:

  • Associated Degree(s) or diploma(s) in a related field: visual arts, teaching, working with youth.
  • Previous experience teaching/working in the field.
  • Current Standard First Aid and AED certification (YMCA will provide training opportunities to re-certify, ie to keep your original certification current).
  • Meet and maintain any other specific licensing requirements.
  • Evidence of a cleared police security clearance including a vulnerable sector search.
  • Three professional references required.

What Does this Role look like at YMCA Calgary?

Duties and Responsibilities include:

  • Prepare lesson plans, teach and educate participants (ages 6-17+) in visual arts skills, according to the curriculum.
  • Help develop/offer input to the current curriculum, in alignment with the growth and development of all arts programming initiatives.
  • Assure the health and safety of participants by following health and safety practices and regulations.
  • Provide a safe, fun, engaging, creative and supportive environment for participants and volunteers.
  • Exceptional organizational, multi-tasking, problem-solving and decision making skills.
  • Exceptional verbal, written and interpersonal skills with a focus on customer service.
  • Strong attention to detail and exceptional follow-through.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Be able to maintain a high level of confidentiality.
  • Maintain a professional attitude at all times.
  • Ability to meet assigned deadlines.
  • Effectively communicates in a variety of settings.
  • Work collaboratively with colleagues to ensure the best delivery of customer/client experience, consistency in program offerings etc.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
  • Be available to work flexible hours, including evenings and weekends.
  • Ensure the space and its equipment are being treated safely, and appropriately.
