The Women’s Centre is looking for volunteers to join the artist in residence (AiR) committee.

The AiR Program was created in celebration of our 20th anniversary to provide increased opportunity for women in our community to connect with Calgary’s arts and music community, while also providing increased visibility and support to local women-identifying artists.

We select one artist or group of artists for each season of the year to lead skill-building workshops and perform at special Women’s Centre events to provide all women in Calgary with new opportunities to celebrate creativity. This program includes any style of art: visual, music, film, etc.

Duties:

  • Attend one committee meeting per month.
  • Work with fellow volunteers on a committee to search for and choose a new artist in residence.
  • Recruit and onboard an artist, maintain relationship communication, and support for the artist throughout their residency.
  • Work with the artist to plan one performance or exhibition and one workshop at the Centre, relay logistics to staff person.
  • Support with event planning and administrative duties.
  • Support the rest of the committee and artists with their events as needed, attend as many AiR events as possible.
  • Work with the committee to plan one networking event a year.
  • Support Women’s Centre staff person with promotions and grant writing as needed.

Time Commitment:

  • One committee meeting per month.
  • Approximately four hours per month or less of researching and communicating with the committee.
  • Flexibility to choose which part of the year you can commit the most time.
  • The position is for a minimum of one year.

Required Skills:

  • Familiar with or interest in the feminist arts community in Calgary; connections an asset.
  • Experience in writing, event planning, and engagement an asset.
  • Interest in women’s issues and supporting women and the arts.
